ABOUT BOTAS: The Head Office of Botas is located in Ankara. The Ankara District Management in Yapracik - Ankara and the Ceyhan District Management in Yumurtalik - Ceyhan both directly report to the General Directorate. Besides, the Dortyol Operation Management is located in Dortyol - Iskenderun and the LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Import Terminal Operation Management is located in Marmara Ereglisi - Tekirdag. Botas's orginal business of transportation of crude oil by pipelines has expanded to cover the natural gas transportation and trade activities since 1987. Hence, the company has gained a trade company identity. Currently, the company holds monopoly in import, distribution, pricing and sale of natural gas in Turkey. In 1995, the article of "to carry out all kinds of petroleum related activities such as exploration, drilling, production, transportation, storage and rafining, for the purpose of providing crude oil and natural gas from abroad" was added to the field of activities of Botas which had been defined as: "to construct and have constructed all types of pipelines for petroleum, petroleum products, and natural gas within and outside of Turkey; to take over, purchase or lease those pipelines that have already been built; to transport petroleum, petroleum products and natural gas through the pipelines and to purchase and sell the crude oil and natural gas transported in the pipelines."

DESCRIPTION OF THE PORT: Marmara Ereglisi Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Import Terminal LNG import terminal was built in Marmara Ereglisi in order to use for diversifying the natural gas supply sources and increasing the supply security and elasticity. It also serves as a base load plant and a means of peak shaving when required. Under the contract of 20 years' term that was signed by Botaþ and Sonatrach for the supply of LNG on April 14, 1988, Turkey would purchase 2 Bcma of natural gas equivalent of LNG. Afterwards, an Amendment to the Contract was signed on October 24, 1995. Accordingly the import volume has been increased to 4 Bcma. Studies were completed to increase permanent send-out capacity to 685.000 cum/hr.

RESTRICTIONS: max.draft 15.5 m., No Limitations for Max.LOA.

ANCHORAGES: There is one area for LNG vessels near the terminals. Lat.40 59 20 N, Long. 27 59 45 E. (Information on best location of anchorage will be given by Pilot).

PILOTAGE: is compulsory for vessels entering or leaving the ports and through the Dardanelles strait. Call Botas and Mehmetcik Pilot on VHF channels 71, 16 two hours before arrival the entrance of the strait for through the port. The South of Dardanelles Strait pilot embarkation place is carried out on a line of 3 NM distance drawn from the position 40 deg. 02'.00 N; Long. 26 deg. 11'.92 E to the direction 262 deg., subject to weather conditions. After the ship has berthed the Pilot /Loading master stays on the ship and requires a separate cabin.

TOWAGE: 2 tugboats to assist through strait and berthing/unberthing. Depending on weather and having regard for safety conditions, additional tugs may be assigned by Botas or port master's office or requested by vessel.

MAIN FUNCTION: The two main functions of the terminal are: 1- LNG ship unloading and storage.

2 - LNG Vaporisation and natural gas send out the terminal is designed for an average natural gas send out

rate of 6 billion Nm3/year.The terminal exported natural gas 4.5 billion Nm3 in 2001.

BERTHING: The marine jetty is a 380m long piled structure with 73 steel piles The jetty is designed to berth LNG tankers of 40.000 to 130.000 m3 category. There are four breasting and six mooring dolphins. The unloading arm system consist of four arms, there 16" LNG unloading and one 12" vapor return arm.

UNLOADING AND STORAGE: After the unloading arms have been connected, the LNG is sent to three storage tanks by the ship's pumps at a flow rate of 10.500 m3/hr. The storage tanks are of the "double containment self-supporting" type. Each tank is 39 m high and has a capacity of 85.000 m3. Tank bunds in the form of 70 cm. thick concrete walls are constructed vertically to surround each tank. Inner tank is made up of 9% nickel steel and outer tank is carbon steel. Three submerged, wheel mounted low pressure pumps are provided for each tank. A fourth pump wheel is included in the tank to accommodate a spare pump. Each tank LTD devices to avoid the stratification of LNG.

LNG COMPRESSION AND REGASIFICATION: LNG regasification is carried out at high pressure to avoid having to pressurize the gas produced which requires much more energy. The LNG is removed from the tanks by using submerged pumps which increase its pressure to approx. 15 bars. Then, after reincorporation of the boil-off. LNG is compressed by send out pumps located together in the high pressure pumping station. The vaporization is performed by a group of open rack sea water vaporizers. The LNG comes to the vaporizers at about 70 bars. The LNG flows from the lower tubes and is collated at the top after being regasified at a temperature higher than 0.5°C. The rated capacity of each of vaporizers is 228.000 Nm3/h of gas. The sea water is returned to the sea at a temperature of 3-5°C less than the intake temperature. When the sea water temperature is lower than +6°C, the submerged combustion vaporizers are used.. There are four submerged combustion vaporizers each a capacity of 124.000 Nm3/h.

GAS SENDOUT: The station for sending the gas into the main pipeline includes: 4 m. runs using orifice plates; Odorizing station with pump-type odorizes injecting ethylmercaptane at an average concentration of 15 mg/Nm3 of gas; Pig launching / receiving station.

AUTOMATION METERING AND CONTROL SYSTEMS: Metering station consists of four metering runs, one 6inc. and 20inc., each equipped with flow pressure, Temperature and density transmitters and a chromatograph unit to establish the quantity and properties of the send out gas. After the metering station, the gas is odorized prior to send out.

THE BASIC FUNCTIONS OF THE CONTROL CENTER LOCATED IN THE MAIN CONTROL ROOM ERA AS FOLLOWS: Indication of analog and digital variables. Alarm display. Historical trend recording and display. Manipulation of controls including set points. Start/stop control of units, valves open/close facilities. Process sequences. Initiation of safety shut downs. Package unit interfaces. In addition, all gas detection, UV/IR, HD, TD etc. throughout the terminal are displayed and deluge and halon systems are controlled in control room.

FIRE PRECAUTIONS: Ship's watchmen to be on duty. All operations involving open fires and sparks are prohibited.

WORKING HOURS: operates 24 hours a day year round.

FRESH WATER: available at the pier.

BUNKER: service is available by barge at anchorage. Only lubrication oil supply at the pier.

AIRPORT: At Istanbul distance apprx. 100 km from the port.

BALLAST: Vessels shall not discharge into the water of the port any part of the content of their cargo, slop or ballast tanks or bilges which is liable to pollute these waters. Ballast water must be declared and signed by the Master and delivered to the terminal to this effect. Ship must not be swept or washed overboard.


WASTE OIL DISPOSAL: available by barge.

SHORE LEAVE: Crew permitted ashore with shore passes. It is forbidden to wander on jetty and in refinery area.

OTHER INFORMATION: All information about "Harbour Regulations" and "International LPG Tanker and Terminal Safety Guide" given to Master after berthing. The main engines of all vessels while at the berth shall be kept ready for immediate use. Fire Fighting Equipment must be adequately manned for fire-fighting and vacating the berth in case of an emergency.
